As part of your DOT physical exam, your vision and hearing will be evaluated to meet FMCSA requirements. Drivers must demonstrate adequate vision and hearing to operate a commercial vehicle safely.
Vision:
You must have at least 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without corrective lenses) and a field of vision of at least 70 degrees in each eye. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring them to your appointment.
Hearing:
You must be able to hear a forced whisper at 5 feet in at least one ear, with or without a hearing aid. Hearing aids are permitted but must be used consistently if required.
If you have known vision or hearing conditions, additional documentation may be needed. Our examiner will review results and determine certification based on FMCSA guidelines.
